Tea Parties Need Teeth

One of the greatest things to come out of 2009 was the Tea Party Movement. A complete organic uprising of citizens upset with the size and scope of government–I have been waiting my whole life for this movement to start. There is one problem with this movement though, politicians will stop taking it seriously if they don’t feel politically threatened.

Everyone loves their congressman while everyone hates congress. While that may not be 100% true today, I would almost bet that’s the case in a lot of areas. When the Tea Party movement kicked off, no one was spared the wrath of the Tea Party protesters. But here we are in December of 2009, watching the Health Care bill pass, which was the single largest issue for the Tea Party Movement. The TPM may have had success in delaying the bill, but it ultimately passed both chambers. What went wrong?

This is rather simple. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s there was a lot of student protests at colleges. When I was young, my history teacher explained how they would take over the administration buildings and essentially take complete control of massive universities. Why don’t Tea Partiers protest like this? Are they afraid that they will seem to radical? Don’t they believe that their liberty is being stolen away? Wouldn’t they fight for it at any cost? Apparently they won’t–at least not yet.

Is the Constitution Flawed?

I saw a great piece over at FR33 Agents this morning that is too good not to share. Often times, I hear the old argument of “going back to the constitution.” I normally ask, “has it been repealed?” While that part often confuses the person making the statement about some supposed glory days when the constitution was held up above the interests of those in power, I always wondered the following:  If people really believed that the constitution was being subverted, why isn’t anyone doing anything to stop it?

Enough of my rambling. Check out the piece from FR33 Agents:

As anarchists of some stripe, we must endure a barrage of silly rhetoric about the Constitution. It’s a never-ending deluge of “If only we got back to the Constitution…” or “If only the Supreme Court observed the Constitutionality of laws…” We must endure an ever increasing supply of Constitutionalists wishing that if only the citizens, or this group of officials, politicians, or school teachers, etc recognized the divine inspiration that is the Constitution, everything would be better.

Universal Coverage - The Book

With a Health Care bill almost on the desk of Barack Obama, what better book to read than one that may predict our future. The recently released Universal Coverage by Daniel Putkowski provides a good look at our not to distant future–that is if things don’t change quickly.

Buy the book here.

Health Care Update: Almost Done in Senate

Moments ago, it was announced that Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid had reached an agreement to hold a final vote on Health Care in order to get the Senate out of session earlier than expected. The final vote is expected to be at 8 am on Christmas Eve according to the Washington Post.

Iran Sanctions Are a Precursor to War

From Ron Paul:

Last week the House overwhelmingly approved a measure to put a new round of sanctions on Iran. If this measure passes the Senate, the United States could no longer do business with anyone who sold refined petroleum products to Iran or helped them develop their ability to refine their own petroleum. The sad thing is that many of my colleagues voted for this measure because they felt it would deflect a military engagement with Iran. I would put the question to them, how would Congress react if another government threatened our critical trading partners in this way? Would we not view it as asking for war?

This policy is pure isolationism. It is designed to foment war by cutting off trade and diplomacy. Too many forget that the quagmire in Iraq began with an embargo. Sanctions are not diplomacy. They are a precursor to war and an embarrassment to a country that pays lip service to free trade. It is ironic that people who decry isolationism support actions like this.

If a foreign government attempted to isolate the US economically, cut off our supply of gasoline, or starve us to death, would it cause Americans to admire that foreign entity? Or would we instead unite under the flag for the survival of our country?

The Cop that waved his gun at people involved in a snowball fight last Saturday is in hot water with his Chief.

Anti-Blasphemy Effort Backed by the U.S

I this article on U.S.A Today and it blew my mind, not the fact that a world government movement to limit what I can and cannot say about religion, but the fact that the U.S openly sponsored this measure, completely throwing away the most important piece of our country’s foundation.

Here is the complete article:

Just say no to blasphemy laws

A Thought on Being Against Government Force

From Adam Bitely:

I was just sitting here talking to my roommate on the matter of the military defending our rights over seas.  If the military was defending our rights, wouldn’t they be here protecting us from the Obama administration, congress, the Supreme Court and many other sources of control?

That, however, is not the case.  Our government has deployed soldiers overseas to protect it’s role in the world.  This has nothing to do with defending the rights of Americans.

I, for one, am quite sick of hearing the argument that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are to protect my rights.  Well, who the hell is protecting me from a congress that spends money that doesn’t exist yet and a President that is trying to take control of every industry that he can get his hands on?  That argument that Republicans once threw around (and still do) as often as a Sham Wow commercial airs won’t do.

Ok, it’s late, and I needed to vent on this subject.  Good night.
